Remote areas, far off the beaten track and without a lot of infrastructure, are most conveniently accessed by sailing vessel. We make an effort to combine our passion of sailing with the means of transportation to help the less privileged. The focus of our project is on the children of remote and poor regions of the world.

The experienced skipper, sports journalist and circumnavigator Mareike Guhr has been sailing the world’s oceans for over 30 years. Mareike’s journeys are of different motivations – above all – to inspire as many people as possible for sailing. The goal to combine getting to know the world, its peoples and cultures and helping with her vessel as a means of transport, matters the most to her.

Mareike started with privately organized aid projects in Haiti in 2011. In order to be able to collect donations and organize future work, the association „Island Child Care – Hilfe für Kinder weltweit e.V.“ (Island Child Care – Help for Children Worldwide) was founded. Additionally we want to encourage other cruisers to deliver supplies from surrounding islands. Your support is needed: Contact us – we will gladly inform you what is needed and how to coordinate a delivery.

Mareike’s new catamaran, the “Moana”, will be sailing in the Caribbean in 2020 and 2021. If possible due to current travel restrictions, the “Moana” will call at Haiti again with new aid supplies.
